Rest your head at one of Denver’s exquisite hotel suites where the high and mighty have spent a night or two.
Sure, almost anyone can be president — but with campaign schedules being what they are and opponents airing your dirty laundry, who needs the bother? Better to simply check into one of Denver’s exclusive presidential suites and be grateful you don’t have to deal with mud slinging and 3 a.m. phone calls.
The suites we visited ranged from the opulent to the funky, playing host to a variety of celebrities, from the Clintons to Kid Rock to the Dalai Lama. Some are less than a year old while others have been hosting dignitaries since the last time the democrats came to town. Not all the presidential suites listed are actually called that by name, but each one shares the elegance, luxury and a price tag worthy of the VIPs who stay there.
Hotel Teatro
The building that contains the Hotel Teatro once belonged to the University of Colorado, hence the name of Teatro’s largest and most elegant room, the Chancellor Suite. Occupying the space that was once the chancellor’s office, the parlor takes up most of the suite’s 1,250 square feet and retains elements of the room’s original décor, including elaborate crown molding, wood paneling, and a large terra cotta and marble mantelpiece complete with a lion’s head crest in its center. Furnishings are simple but elegant, with a mission-style desk and credenza along with softly textured couches and chairs in muted colors. The attached guest suite is spacious and boasts a large washroom complete with soaking tub, bidet and Aveda toiletries. The bed itself is elegantly dressed in Frette linens.

At more than 3,000 square feet, the Ritz-Carlton Suite ensconces guests in luxury, from the elegantly decorated parlor to the master bath featuring a soaking tub with spectacular views of Coors Field and the mountains beyond. Despite belonging to an international chain, the Ritz-Carlton Suite never loses its sense of place thanks to the stunning original paintings by local artists adorning the walls.

Loews Denver Hotel
Located near Colorado Boulevard and Mississippi Avenue, Loews Denver Hotel is convenient to both the Cherry Creek shopping district and the Denver Tech Center. Because of the privacy its distance from downtown provides, Loews is a favorite among visiting celebrities who take up residence in the hotel’s Bella Vista Suite. At nearly 2,000 square feet, there is no shortage of space — or sophistication. Furniture upholstered with soft, rich fabrics and a baby grand piano make the room an upscale setting for intimate gatherings. The attached guest suite is likewise elegantly adorned with top-quality linens and spa-style bath products.

Brown Palace Hotel
The Brown Palace is the grand-dame of Denver hotels and has hosted almost every president since Teddy Roosevelt. Perhaps that’s why there are not one, but three presidential suites at the Brown. The Eisenhower Suite — named for the president who stayed there so often it became known as the Western White House — is the original presidential suite. At 1,200 square feet, the room is a study in elegance and restraint. Subdued federalist blues and whites are contrasted by red silk upholstery in bold patterns. President Eisenhower often practiced his golf swing in the suite and a section of the room’s original mantelpiece, dented by his golf ball, is proudly on display.

The Oxford Hotel
The Oxford Hotel is filled with stories — like the tale about the painting hanging above the elevator bank, traded to the hotel by the artist to pay his bar tab. The Oxford Presidential Suite is equally as rich with points of interest, from the stunning local artwork to the custom made drapes from China. The 700-square-foot room reflects an easy elegance with reproduction antique rugs, leather chairs and stately appointments throughout. The separate guest room contains a fireplace dating from the hotel’s original construction, authentic antiques and an elegant master bath with a seven-head shower.

Hotel Monaco
The Hotel Monaco is part of the always-interesting Kimpton family of hotels. With its funky and colorful décor, Hotel Monaco places a premium on fun — a theme carried through to its unique suites. The 60’s Suite, as its name suggests, transports guests back in time to an idealized utopia, circa the Summer of Love. An enormous Peace symbol adorns one wall of the 675-square-foot suite and guests are encouraged to sign their names on it. (One husband-to-be even penned his marriage proposal to his intended there.) Once you get beyond the décor, the tie-dyed bathrobe and the beaded curtain separating the seating area from the bedroom, you’ll find nothing but 21st century luxury with all the amenities.

The attached guest room features all the amenities one would expect, including 400-thread count sheets, an iPod docking station and luxurious bath products.

The Westin Tabor Center
The Pikes Peak Suite at The Westin Tabor eschews over-the-top opulence for understated elegance. At more than 2,000 square feet, the suite consists of a large parlor with a dining area and two attached guest suites — one featuring a king size bed and the other two queen size beds. Couches and lounge chairs are covered with unprepossessing but richly textured fabrics in an array of earth tones, giving the room a relaxing and contemporary feel. The view of downtown and the mountains — including Pikes Peak — is outstanding.
