Jones New York style expert Lloyd Boston shows Denver women how to take their wardrobes to the next level.
If clothes shopping and accessorizing aren’t favorite pastimes, imagine how much more enjoyable they could be with one of the country’s leading style experts by your side.
More than 100 lucky ladies — members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc./Denver Delta Inc. and their guests — did just that when one of America’s favorite stylists made an appearance at Macy’s in the Cherry Creek Shopping Center to show off the best of JNY.
You might know Boston from his many appearances on shows such as Oprah, The Today Show, The View and CNN American Morning. He also has penned three books: Men of Color, Make Over Your Man, and his latest tome, Before You Put that On, which he also illustrated.
In 2007, Boston teamed with global mega-brand Jones New York as its first male spokesperson and exclusive “style guru.” Today, he travels across the country making personal appearances, offering style clinics and an online fashion forum (jonesnewyork.com) — and helps women bring out their fabulous fashionista from the inside out.
Boston sat down with Denver Magazine to share a few of his favorite fashion tips. Samples of his expert advice appear on the Delta ladies, who modeled his looks for the Macy’s crowd. (See next page.)
Boston’s favorite JNY trends and tips:
• The summer cotton suit breathes and has stretch, too, and is ideal for layering.
• Sandals or pumps? Summer nights can swing high or low – so should your look.
• Traveler? Airplane cabins can get chilly. Layer knits, not linen, for travel.
• Interiors can be frigid. Keep a neutral cardigan on standby to match everything.
• A built-in tank offers support for a fabulous and flattering top.
• Animal prints add drama to any outfit. A little print goes a long way. Don’t overdo it.
• Cropped jackets visually elongate the leg and add inches to great gams.
• A “true-size” tunic is for parties. Go larger as a swimwear cover-up for poolside.
• Bermudas, a cropped jacket and wedge heels offer a casual chic look day or night.
• Layer roomy, sporty dresses over slimmer pants for a youthful look.
• Un-tuck a top with a finished hem. Add a belt over it for a polished take on casual.
• Slouchy is sexy! Mod pants with wide-leg bottoms can skim the floor like pajamas.
